40 | Tea Time Talk | Lilting and Dancing

A few weeks ago we had a tea time talk about rhythm in Irish music. We got to talking about dancing and playing different time signatures and then dancing to different instruments. Towards the end we started talking about dancing to the flute and lilting. One of the features that makes this such a fun to dance to is the breath that is both forms. Today we look at lilting tunes and dancing to singers. Please come along and share your thoughts. Everyone is welcome to talk or just listen.

38 | Tea Time Talk | Lark Camp

What is Lark Camp? Lark Camp is a magical place many of us disappear to for 8 days every summer. A place where you can unplug and be immersed in folk traditions from all over the world, and I mean all over. The pandemic has moved Lark Camp online, but the spirit is still there.

I have asked the folks at Lark to join us and talk about how such a magical place got started and how they are continuing to bring the joy of tradition, song, music and dance into our lives.

I have always had a soft spot for Lark, having grown up in the Albion woods, just few miles south of the Mendocino Woodlands, it has been a full circle journey for me to join the camp staff. Over the years I have been honored to bring what I have learned back to this community that gave me so much.

I invite join us for a cup of tea and a chat with the Lark folks.

36 | Tea Time Talk | Simon Harmer

Simon Harmer

5-19-2021 – Our weekly tea time talks have brought so many people together in conversation. I have been able to connect with people I haven’t seen in years. We have been able to meet so many folks from around the world. But I think my biggest joy had been getting to meet and know Simon. He has been such insight to our talks and I’m delighted when he joins our weekly talk. I alway want to hear more from him and I am very excited to have him as the featured guest this week.

33 | Tea Time Talk | Randal Bays

Randal Bays joins us for tea. Randal was a founding member of the Portland Ceili Society and I grew up dancing to his music. I even had the opportunity to do an internship with him at his record label while I was in collage. He is a teacher, performer and community organizer. Today he is offering an incredible music program online. I’m excited to hear his perspective and story.
