I put together a playlist of videos featuring Róisín Ní Mhainín, who was my very first sean-nós dance teacher. When I first traveled to Ireland in 1998, I asked around about where to learn sean-nós—and again and again, people told me, “Find Róisín.”

If you ever have the chance to take a workshop with her or see her dance live, don’t pass it up. She’s not only an extraordinary dancer but also a gifted and generous teacher. Truly one of a kind.

While I was studying at the University of Limerick in 1999 I was able to take a workshop with her as well as a workshop at the Joe Mooney Summer School that same year.
