Maldon Meehan Biography

Maldon Meehan is a distinguished figure in the world of Irish dance, renowned for her dedication and expertise. Her passion ignited while dancing with her father and blossomed into a lifelong commitment to the art of set and sean-nós dance. With a degree from Evergreen State College and a Master’s in Ethnochoreology from the University of Limerick, she has over 30 years of teaching experience.

Maldon’s dance repertoire includes Irish set, Ceili, sean-nós, old-style step dance, Cape Breton, and Appalachian flatfooting. She has trained with esteemed mentors like Mick Mulkerrin, Mairéad Casey, and Pat Murphy, cultivating a rich understanding of Irish dance tradition and technique.

In 2005, Maldon made national television appearances at the Oireachtas in Cork and placed third in a prestigious sean-nós competition. Alongside Ronan Regan, she released the first instructional DVD on sean-nós dance, which sold globally.

Currently based in Oregon, Maldon offers classes at all levels both locally and online. Her performances grace stages like the Milwaukee Irish Festival and the Portland Christmas Revels. She leads the Maldon Meehan Dancers, a Portland-based troupe performing at céilís, festivals, libraries and private events. Her shows, such as “Brightening Glance”, “An Damhsa” and “Footnotes” showcase a vibrant fusion of dance styles inspired by cultural traditions and poetry.

Beyond performance, Maldon offers workshops, lectures, and private lessons, adapting her approach to suit various audiences and skill levels. Her online dance school invites students worldwide to explore the captivating world of Irish dance.
