DESCRIPTION:September 25\, Friday — Irish Set Dancing: Cork & Kerry\nPCC Southeast — Portland\, OR \n6:30–8:20 PM \nWeek 1 of 3 \nLink: https://www.pcc.edu/schedule/fall/dan/9dan605k/ \nLearn Cork and Kerry style foundational techniques\, accompanied by traditional music. Step-by-step instruction is followed by called dances and social dancing. Final class is a field trip to a community dance with live music. All levels welcome. No partner required. \nIrish set dancing is a community-based social dance tradition\, similar to American square dancing\, where groups of dancers move through called figures together in a welcoming\, energetic atmosphere. Learn the core skills needed to confidently participate in a ceili\, the traditional Irish social dance gathering. The dances taught in this course come from the Cork and Kerry traditions of southwest Ireland and are danced to the lively rhythms of Irish polkas\, slides\, and hornpipes. These traditions are especially associated with Sliabh Luachra\, the cultural region where Cork\, Kerry and Limerick meet\, a region known for its rich heritage of music\, singing\, storytelling\, and dance. Through repetition and group dancing\, students build coordination\, musicality\, and connection with fellow dancers while developing skills they can continue to enjoy for years to come.
